Cupcakes!

Every party needs a cake...or in my case CUPCAKES! I love cupcakes I think they are sooo adorable, way easier than a cake and they always get eaten! You ALWAYS end up throwing out at least 1/4 of a cake, of which Im not a fan.

I never really enjoyed baking much, but this year for Christmas my parents gave me a Kitchen Aide mixer...talk about the greastest gift ever!! So im learning to be more patient with my baking, as of right now I usually use a mix (always miss betty for this gal).

One of my personal goals for this year is to find and perfect a white cake recipe that I can use for cupcakes. (ill keep ya posted on that one) Recently I was introduced to Smitten Kitchen, if you've never heard of it...you must go check it out. Tons of amazing recipes for everything, including homemade poptarts...yum! My cousin posted pictures of these Rootbeer Float Cupcakes which is now my all time favorite chocolate cake recipe. They are as good as they look..trust me!

Icing is always Wilton Buttercream...always! Its easy, everyone loves it, and its easy to work with...need I say more?

Wilton Butter Cream Icing

1/2 c butter

1/2 c shortening

2 tbsp milk

4 cups icing sugar

*for spreading add 1-2 tbsp corn syrup.

80's Party



I Love looking at these next two pictures together..Both were cupcakes for friends little girls, both pink and brown...months apart. One batch of icing was made with an electric hand mixer, and one batch was made with the new kitchen aid. Check it out.

Vegas Baby!

So the next party was a little bit different... Vegas Style! So what comes to mind when you think of vegas? Gambling, Elvis, Glitter, Fancy Dresses and Buffets everywhere. Again all DIY, anyone can pull this off with a little time and patients and  A LOT of glitter.

Started with the most important thing...the signs. I made the welcome sign for a photo-op, I made an ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET sign for the buffet, and a highrollers only sign for above the "card table". I had a vegas scene setter for the dining room and behind the "photo op" of slot machines. The girls and I got together and did cutouts of all the card suits and money symbols for the walls.

From there it was just little details, i painted giant dice out of square boxes. The mirror in the bathroom was lined in cards, we had tacky shiny garland amd gold balloons all over the kitchen, Gold pom poms in the living room. And  once again people showed up dressed for the theme! It was a great Birthday!

The Beginning

So here we go..First Post!


I decided to start a blog about entertaining...recipes,  parties and decor..because its what I love to do! I love when someone suggests a party, my mind instantly starts going and doesn't stop till its executed.


 I've always loved to entertain, love having company and dinner guests. But the love for going all out with ANY occasion started in 2010,  when my bestie J came back from a visit home. She was telling us how a family member would throw these theme parties for all their friends...well why couldnt we do the same? Doesnt have to be expensive, when your a crafty stay at home mom with awesome friends...you can make anything you put your mind to. So our parties are mainly DIY! LOVE IT!


First party we did was a a sports themed surprise party for one of the boys...in Jan 2010. The pictures arent great of the decor wasnt anticipating blogging about the parties...but here are a few of our favorite things.

..we made some sports penants and defence signs (yes the kind with the D and the picture of the fence) all over the kitchen (where as we know, the most people are). We marked off the table cloth like a football field and bought the famous foam fingers

We bought a little suction cup basketball net, and called it fun shot...it was an adult birthday party, I think you know how it went from there. Here's the score board we painted...with attached chalk for keeping score.

So this was the very first party I had to test the waters a bit, everyone showed up wearing their sports jersey and had a blast...and the "monster" was created.
